Hatton Locks Full English Breakfast – Warwick (review by Warwick Lea)

A lazy Saturday morning is a great reward after a heavy work week. Add a great breakfast and it makes the weekend feel like a holiday. Add a venue by water, a lovely day and the opportunity to combine it with walking the dog – heaven for me and the canine friend!

We went to Hatton Locks, just outside Warwick, close to the M40, A46 and Warwick Parkway station (for those who like a walk). Hatton Locks cafe is located towards the top of the very busy flight of locks.

I went for their large breakfast which was about £6.  It had 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, beans, mushrooms, tomato and toast – I swapped the tomato for some extra toast. I didn’t ask for the beans to be served separately (nod to @brumbrekkieclub ) but I did ask for the eggs over hard and dry toast – just call me a freak!

This was a great ‘real’ breakfast. Well cooked with all of the ingredients really tasty. Served by great friendly staff, it fitted perfectly into my lazy holiday Saturday experience! Special plaudits to the sausages – definitely the butchers variety and probably local (I think I read something on the menu about it). Sadly for the little dog it was too good and no real scraps remained for her –  despite her repeated barking.

A word of parise for the very nice and moreish toast. Don’t know whose bread they use but it was just right – crisp on the outside and soft within with a very nice fresh and sweet taste.

On such a lovely day we sat outside although we have previously visited in cold and wet weather when dogs and muddy boots are allowed inside. When we arrived it was relatively quiet but by the time we finished there were lots of families, walkers and narrowboaters around.

To use the @BrumBrekkieClub www.birminghambreafastclub.co.uk rating system – I give it 8 eggs and will definitely visit again.

They are open from 09:00 – 17:00 every day of the week.
